Incidents - 2008

12/14/2008 - Dwelling fire
Lawnside Fire Company 27-2, Magnolia Fire Company 29-1, Barrington Fire Company 9-1, and Runnemede Fire Company 7-5, were dispatched to the 300 block of Independence Boulevard, for a dwelling fire. Command 910(Captain Taylor) arrived to find a 2 story Single family dwelling, with smoke showing from the roof and 2nd floor rear. Lawnside Assistant Chief B. Harper arrived and assumed command. Squad 27-22 arrived, stretched a 1 3/4 waterline to the front door. Quint 91 arrived and assumed first due truck company operations. The fire was located in the basement laundry room, with extension to the upstairs kitchen and bathroom. The fire was knocked down quickly by Squad 27-22. Quint 91 ventilated and secured the utilities. All companies assisted with overhaul.

12/13/2008 - Highway Box
Barrington Fire Company 9-1, Bellmawr Fire Company 3-2, Haddon Heights Ambulance (BLS 298), and Virtua Health Paramedics (Medic 44) were dispatched to highway 295 Southbound at 29.4 for a motor vehicle accident. Command 910 (Captain Taylor) responded immediately, and was advised by Camden County Dispatch of a multiple vehicle accident, with one into the median. Command 910 arrived, assumed Route 295 Command, and confirmed that there were 2 vehicles involved, but that there were no injuries. The assignment was reduced to Rescue 32 to secure the vehicles utilities and clean debris from the roadway.

12/12/2008 - Dwelling Fire
While returning from the Bellmawr job, Task Force 92 (Barrington Fire Company 9-1, Runnemede Fire Company 7-5, Bellmawr Fire Company 3-2, and Haddon Heights Fire Department 2-1, and Barrington Ambulance BLS 9) were dispatched to the 200 Block of South Moore Ave for a dwelling fire. Command 910 (Captain Taylor) responded from the station, while Quint 91 and Engine 753 responded from Bellmawr. Command 910 arrived to find nothing showing from the dwelling. Quint 91 arrived and companies found a stove, with smoldering debris inside the oven. The assignment was reduced to Quint 91. The stove was secured and turned over to the resident.

12/12/2008 - Dwelling Fire
Task Force 33 (Bellmawr Fire Department Stations 3-2 and 3-3, Runnemede Fire Department 7-5, Mt. Ephraim Fire Department 4-5, and Westville Fire Department 7-3, and Bellmawr Ambulance BLS 3) were dispatched to the 1100 Block of Center Ave for a dwelling fire. CFM 13 (Camden County Fire Marshall) responded almost immediately and Camden County Fire Dispatch advised him that they were receiving reports of people "jumping” from the building. Quint 91 (Barrington Fire Company) was clearing another assignment and took in the call. Companies arrived to find smoke showing from a 2 story dwelling. Companies made a quick knock on the fire. One resident was transported to the hospital with minor injuries.

12/11/2008 - Highway Box
At approximately 0250 hours Squad 91(Barrington Fire Company), Rescue 32 (Bellmawr Fire Department), BLS 298 (Haddon Heights Ambulance), and Medic 44 (Virtua Health Paramedics) were dispatched to Route 295 Southbound, just before Exit 28 (Bellmawr) for a motor vehicle accident.  Command 910 (Captain Taylor) and Battalion 303 (Bellmawr Duty Chief) responded minutes later and were advised by Camden County Communications of a vehicle into the median.  Command 910 arrived, assumed Route 295 Command, and reported a vehicle in to the median, with the driver still in the vehicle and fluids on the highway. The assignment was reduced to Squad 91 and BLS 298, returning the other companies.  Patient was packaged and removed from the vehicle and transported to the hospital. Squad 91 secured the vehicle utilities, and cleaned up all road hazards. Squad 91 and Command 910 cleared the scene at 0314 hours.

11/05/08 1130 hours (Motor vehicle accident with entrapment)
At approximately 1130 hours, Camden County Communications dispatched Rescue 32 (Bellmawr Fire Department), Squad 91 (Barrington Fire Company), BLS 297 (Haddon Heights Ambulance) and Medic 44 (Virtua Health Paramedic Units) Route 295 Northbound at the 28.2 mile marker, for a motor vehicle accident. One minute later, Camden County redispatched the assignment, upgrading it to a motor vehicle accident/rescue assignment, adding BLS 317(Bellmawr Ambulance) and BLS 437 Mt Ephraim Ambulance) due to a report of multiple injuries. Battalion 303 (Bellmawr FD Duty Chief ) and Rescue 32 responded with a crew  of 6. Squad 91 Responded with a crew of 6, along with 9104 (Barrington FD Duty Officer Capt. Taylor). Crews arrived on scene with one vehicle overturned with the driver trapped in the vehicle and another vehicle with heavy front end damage and fluids leaking. Rescue 32 began operating with their hydraulic rescue tools, stabilizing the vehicle then removing the passenger side doors.  The crew of Squad 91 split the team with half assisting Rescue 32 and the other half stabilizing the second vehicle and mitigating the fluid hazards.  Engine 33 (Bellmawr Fire Department) arrived and stretched an 1 3/4 inch water line for fire protection.  The victim was removed after approximately 20 minutes and transferred to BLS 317 and Medic 44 for transport to the hospital. Crews cleaned up the wreckage and returned to service.

09/30/08 1717 hours
Task Force 9 (Barrington Fire Company Station 91, Bellmawr Fire Department Rescue 32, Haddon Heights Fire Department Engine 213, and Runnemede Fire Company Squad 75) were dispatched to the 1200 block of Clements Bridge Road for an apartment fire. Caller reported an apartment on fire and they were evacuating. Duty Officer (910) Deputy Chief Taylor signed on, responding within minutes. Camden County Radio advised 910 that police on scene were reporting smoke showing and they were evacuating the residents from the building. Rescue 32 and Quint 91 signed on responding simultaneously. 910 arrived on scene and was advised by police that the fire was extinguished, but there was a heavy smoke condition in the building. 910 used Rescue 32 and Quint 91 to provide mechanical ventilation to clear the smoke and return the residents to their homes. Companies were in service for 20 minutes.

08/31/08 1621 hours
Barrington Fire Company No. 1 (Station 91) Quint 91 was dispatched to relocate to Bellmawr Fire Company Station 32, while Bellmawr operated at a fatal house fire on Flanders Road in Bellmawr Borough. En route to the relocate with a crew of 5, Quint 91, Engine 211 (Haddon Heights), and Squad 51 (Gloucester City) were dispatched to the Flanders Road fire on the second alarm. Second alarm companies provided relief manpower and overhaul assistance to the companies that initially operated at the scene. One person died in the fire. The residence had NO working smoke detectors.

Everyone is reminded to test their smoke detectors monthly!

08/02/08 Approx. 0245 hours
Squad 91 was dispatched for a brush fire to the rear of a residence on the 500 block of Austin Ave. The assignment was immediately upgraded to Task Force 91 (Barrington 91, Bellmawr 32, Haddon Heights 21, and Lawnside 27) for a dwelling fire in the 500 block of Charles Ave. 9102 arrived and was advised by police that there was fire on the rear deck of the dwelling and it was extending into the house. Police kept the fire from spreading with a garden hose. Rescue 32 arrived, followed shortly by Quint 91. Rescue 32 checked for extension into the structure and Quint 91 stretched a 1¾" water line and extinguished the fire. Engine 213 assisted in ventilating the dwelling and Squad 27 laid 300 feet of a 4" water supply line to Quint 91. Companies made quick work of the fire and were returned to service.  BFC was also assisted by Barrington and Haddon Heights Police Departments and the Camden County Fire Marshals Office.

06/28/08 2200 hours
At approx. 2200 hours, while assisting Lawnside Fire Department with their annual fire works, Barrington Fire Co (91) was dispatched to assist Magnolia Fire Department (291) with a dwelling fire in the 300 Block of Adams Ave. Engine 91 with a crew of 4 and 9102 and 9104 in Command Car 910 responded immediately. Police reported a bedroom fire and a Magnolia Fire officer arrived. Engine 91 was ordered to supply Quint 291 with water. Engine 91 hand stretched 300' of 4" hose to Quint 291. The fire was extinguished with a minimal amount of water. Engine 91's crew also assisted with overhaul. Companies were returned to service by 2245 hours.

06/26/08 Highway Box: Vehicle Fire
At 0615 hours, Barrington Fire Company (91) and Bellmawr Fire Department (32) were dispatched to a vehicle fire on State Highway 295 SB at Mile Marker 29.0. 3301 arrived to find a vehicle with an engine compartment fire. 9104 arrived minutes later and reported the vehicle to be fully involved in fire. Squad 32 with a crew of 4, arrived on scene and began attacking the fire with a 1¾" waterline. Squad 91 with a crew of 5 arrived and assisted squad 32 with extinguishing the fire. Crews overhauled the vehicle and remained on scene until the tow company removed the vehicle. Companies were assisted by the New Jersey State Police from the Bellmawr Barracks.

06/25/08 Task Force 2
At approx. 1500 hours, Task Force 2 (Haddon Heights(21), Barrington(91), Audubon(1-1) and Mt. Ephraim (45) Fire Depts.) were dispatched to the 700 block of the Black Horse Pike for a dwelling fire. CFM 5 arrived to find a two story multi-family dwelling with heavy smoke showing from the rear. The working fire dispatch added Bellmawr Rescue 32 as a  FAST TEAM (firefighter assist search team) because Mount Ephraim Rescue 45 was operating at another assignment, and Haddonfield Ladder 14-1 as the additional truck company.  Haddon Heights and Audubon Fire Companies advanced hose lines into the dwelling, while the Officer and Irons man of Quint 91 entered, found the fire, vented and searched the structure. The chauffeur and outside vent man laddered the roof with the main and placed ground ladders on all four sides of the dwelling. The fire was quickly knocked down and extinguished.  Crews checked for extension and began positive pressure ventilation. Companies began to restore their equipment and return to service.  Fire scene being investigated by Haddon Heights Fire Department and the Camden County Fire Marshals Office (CFM).

06/01/08 Task Force 75
Task Force 75 (Runnemede (75), Barrington (91), Bellmawr (32), Chews Landing (82), Glendora (81) Fire Companies) were dispatched for a building fire at the Holiday Inn on 9th Ave in Runnemede. Quint 91 responded with a crew of 4. Companies arrived to find a small fire in a commercial dryer. Fire was quickly extinguished, but left a smoke condition throughout the first level. Crew from Quint 91 provided ventilation to remove the smoke. Companies cleared scene in approximately 30 minutes.

5/27/08 2:05PM Task Force 32
Task Force 32 (Bellmawr 32, Bellmawr Park 33, Barrington 91, Runnemede 75, Mt. Ephraim 75) were dispatched to 28 E. Chestnut Ave in Bellmawr for a dwelling fire. Quint 91 responded with a crew of 6. Companies arrived on scene with fire showing from a 1-1/2 story single family dwelling. Squirt 32 placed two 1-3/4" water lines in service and knocked down the fire, holding it to the room of origin. Quint 91 performed outside ventilation, placed ground ladders on all sides, secured utilities, and performed overhaul in the fire room. Used all hands.
